Week recap: How am I doing? Haven’t thought about that much lately.

Wow, parenthood sure has a way of making you forget about yourself both on a physical and an emotional level. Good news is you are so busy there is no time to dwell or complain about it. LOL.

I was laying on the bed after my bath tonight and I got to thinking about me. I was pondering the wedding we didn’t have and how I have this dress sitting in my closet I’ve never worn. You see we are getting a nice tax refund this spring and we’ve talked about where the money should go. Home improvements, retirement, paying off debt, buying much needed new appliances, special treats for ourselves… Not once did we even think to spend it on our wedding… I just realized this.

Neither one of us really had the thought in the forefront of our minds. You see the reality is we ARE technically married even though we didn’t have a wedding, and life has moved past the engaged couple planning a wedding stage… We have bigger things to worry about and while I’d love to have a wedding (every girl dreams of her white dress and special day) I know that it’s not totally necessary.

I mean weddings are just those things that people to for the sake of ceremony and celebration. We know how well our most recent attempt at social celebration went (remember the baby shower nobody came to?). Besides weddings are expensive and ours is something we’ll have to pay for all on our own, and no family or old friends even live near us these days.

Which brings me to question the necessity of a wedding and whether or not it’s important enough for me to insist on. I mean we are almost 30 and with child… We have almost been together a decade. People who are in our situation would look stupid trying to go through the whole wedding production right?

Ugh, I am so torn and honestly when I go and try thinking about how I feel I am lost. I have no idea what I want or feel anymore.

What I do know is we had a pretty great Valentines Day. I almost forgot to share that with you guys!

We didn’t go out on a date and we didn’t get sucked in to the obligatory gift buying thing too much this year. We didn’t want to leave Everly with a sitter, didn’t have energy to get all doddled up and weren’t too interested in spending tons of money or even leaving the house…

So we had a homemade fondue dinner and a day of family togetherness.

We got Everly a sweet baby’s first Valentines Day card and a kissing Elmo stuffed animal. For breakfast N made a yummy German Baby. I was given TWO new orchids and they are beautiful!

N said as they were browsing the garden section Everly spotted a particular orchid plant and zeroed in on it. He took her closer and she just stared in amazement so he grabbed it and bright it closer, she then gently reached out to touch the flower. He asked if that was the plant she wanted to give me and she just smiled big.

So, Everly got me an orchid with white flowers and purple splotches. N got me a purple/ pink one with stripes that is super pretty too! I got the roses from a sweet student. Here they are:

This weekend is shaping up to be a crazy one for me. My students lost many rehearsal days thanks to the never ending snow that’s pounded the area. So we are playing catch-up these next few days in addition to having a competition on Saturday.

N and E are staying home while I go off and do the Winter Guard coach thing. It’s gonna be hard for E and I to be separated for a whole day and I am going to be toast after Saturday night comes and goes.

That is how my week is shaping up. Hopefully yours is going well. Relax a bit for me okay?

I agree with Mitzi! We spent $60 and went to the Justice of the Peace, with 5 witnesses, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Who wants to deal with all the stress of searching for a venue, putting together guest lists, blowing thousands of dollars (I consider it "blowing" when that money can be used for much better things!) I love that you guys have gotten yourselves settled. You have a house and a baby, those are huge!! Renew your vows in a few years and throw a big party when Everly can enjoy it and celebrate your love too :)

what about waiting until a special anniversary and renew your vows? you could it up big or something simple, even just the two of you. or three of you :)

Talina, Randy and I have not been together for a decade but we have been together for three years. In fact we are getting married on our three year anniversary. I am putting together a wedding for less than around 3500 and doing it in 4 months time. WE could have gone the jp route but it was not what I wanted. Randy has been married before and had the wedding he wanted then so he just wants me to have the wedding I want. We are doing a simple wedding in a local building and a small reception to follow. We to are paying for everything ourselves. You and Nathan are already married but it is up to you both if the ceremony with family and friends is what you really want. its really all about you two I would have gone to vegas and had the whole thing done but most of his family is here in nc and would not be able to come. My mom already will not be there and i wanted as much family as possible to be there. I am 30 and he is 34 and we have a baby together. you are never too old or settled to renew your vows if that is what you want to do. You both will do what is right for you and your little family.

Hey you need to remember , you are married you did it your way and together you two have Gained a kind of love that a lot of people dont have. After your vowels you two moved into the next level of your wonderful life, N's new job with financial security and the house came together and beautiful E came into your life. T you two will know when it's the right time to renew your vowels and have friends and family there. Don't worry for a ceramony. Enjoy what you've got you have a wonderful live. Lov Ya MOM

Let's see... one daughter informed us she was married after the fact, and sent us photos of the small ceremony at the JP's office with their two witnesses. She did buy a wedding dress.

Another daughter had the whole shebang. All of it, a whole week's worth, Southern style, 400 guests, ending with a brunch the day after the wedding. Of course they have lots of great memories. (We're not wealthy, but the groom's family is. Merely attending almost cost us more than we could afford!)

The third daughter got married at the Venetian in Las Vegas, rode the Gondola, and then a ferris wheel in her wedding dress... it was wild. Then they drove to LA for their honeymoon and got on The Price Is Right where my handsome son-in-law won $10,000 on Plinko.

None of them are more *married* than the others.

Since you've already got the dress, go the Las Vegas/Price is Right route :-) I'll keep Everly for ya!

I was already a mother when my husband and I married. We decided on a small, intimate backyard ceremony. You can do whatever feels right to you...even just a small ceremony with vows and celebration to take photos and make it feel "official"...whatever. I like the saying...a marriage not a wedding, lol... my sweetie and I would of just as soon made it official at the courthouse but family demanded otherwise. We just wanted a life together. <3 I am sure you will decide what feels right for you.

You know, we had Aidan and then decided to get married. We had it in my moms backyard, with about 12 people and my mom spent about $500 on it. It was simple and the people who ment the world to us! Our Moms, Chris Dad, my Gramma, and both sides of chris grand parents.

I love Kelly Rippa! She always says that her and her husband have a marriage not a wedding. So I have lived by that term for 4 years now!

Sometimes. . . Life happens.
