Road trip adventures Everly enjoyed.

Whew! After a week on the road we needed a day to decompress after getting back to Evansville. Yesterday we sat around in our PJ’s, did many loads of laundry, scrubbed cat vomit from the carpets, cleaned cat boxes… You know all the chores and stuff that go undone while you are away. Everly was a [...]

Road trip adventures Everly enjoyed.

What is it with shower situations in New Mexico? We are spending the night in Tucumcari, NM this time around. We got a cheap hotel to spend the night in and unfortunately it only has a shower. You see it’s a cheap hotel, tiny, clean and shower-less with a super loud heater… You get what you [...]

The last time I showered in New Mexico…

We are on the road in our newly fixed car! After flying here and hanging out with family and friends it’s now time to make the trip back home, in our car. We spent much time this morning debating weather or not it was a good idea to make the trek up north to I-40 [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

Here are my tweets as they played out during the night and early hours of the morning. I didn’t realized it would reach so many people. At first I was just tweeting so my husband would know what was going on, then I kept tweeting to be sure I didn’t leave anyone in the dark. [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

It’s true. N and I got the holiday ham that keeps on giving. It seems we have food poisoning or something… It’s been an ongoing thing for over a week now. We just tossed several pounds of ham leftovers after we figured it was the culprit, also tossed the spinach salad just for good measure. [...]

Dazed, anxiety ridden and plagued with ham disease.

Christmas 2009 as parents.

I never thought I would be such a gingerbread cookie fiend! Last week we made up a ton of cookies to get in the holiday spirit and also so N would have cookies to take in to work for everyone. We’d been trying different gingerbread cookie recipes each year, nothing was particularly impressive and I thought [...]

Someone is excited about the holiday!

She’s not even walking yet and she’s already being a stinker about opening gifts early. After her gift snagging earlier in the week we moved all the gift bags and stuff with ribbon away from her reach. We thought the paper and curly ribbon was attracting her attention. Looks like she’s smarter about this gift [...]

Someone is excited about the holiday!

I have a confession. I am fairly certain twitter is killing my creativity! I’ve been having issues with blog content since Everly’s birth. Sure I am a busy mom who is working part time in addition to caring for a new baby. Yeah, computer time is limited these days… The thing is it’s not the time that [...]

Baby leg warmers crochet fun

I’ve been working on making E a pair of baby legwarmers since October. I just finished them today which is kind of a big deal. You see I tend to start and never finish my knit and crochet projects… Today will probably be the only day she’ll wear them since it took me two months to [...]

Sunday Stealing: The Dating Profiles Meme

All the trees are naked and it is very close to freezing at night now. Thanksgiving is just right around the corner and we aren’t really sure where the year has gone. Life is blowing by so fast and it just feels like we are standing here in a blur while it all swirls around us [...]

Today we are proud home owners!

Well, we’ve done it! Several years of planning and thousands of dollars later… We are now the proud owners of our own home! N was bummed that we had no “sold” sign to pose with out on the front lawn though… We may just have to stage it anyway, kind of like this: We went in [...]

Today we are proud home owners!

This will be the first weekend in probably a month or so that we’ll have to relax and get caught up on things. Marching season has come and gone, my 9th marching season is now over. Sure winterguard plans and ideas are in the works but it wont be until January when the performance madness picks [...]

Sigh… Rest and recuperation are in order.

To my baby girl at 20 weeks

Dear Sweet Everly, You are now 20 weeks old/ 5 months today. Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I was holding you for the first time. When we first brought you home from The Farm it felt like time was going so slow as we learned your needs and got used to being [...]

To my baby girl at 20 weeks

Before becoming a parent I really had no idea just how busy things could get. Sure back in my pre-parenthood days it felt busy and hectic but in comparison to how it is now I really had it easy back then. Now things truly are insanely busy and I could probably benefit from some crack, ADD [...]

Super, crazy- busy is an understatement!

Turkey day is delayed!!!

Most of you are cooking like crazy today huh? We are just plotting, no cooking here. Our Thanksgiving will happen tomorrow instead of today.

I’m planning menu items, we are going to do a few things different this year. Like buying an organic turkey direct from the farm as opposed to buying one in a store. We had a heck of a time finding a turkey last year that was free of injected junk.

If you check the fine print on your meat packaging and you’ll often find something like “20% injected solution” or similar. Some people see this as a means to rip consumers off, you can read more here.

Personally, we aren’t jazzed about the injected meat because of all the unnatural chemicals. We are pretty set on avoiding as many chemicals, artificial ingredients and added hormones as possible in our diet after our eye opener.

This year in we got our injection free turkey and we even managed a free range, organic one that is hanging out in my fridge right now. Yay!

So, the organic turkey is one change. The other change is gonna be from scratch stuffing using stale bread we’ve accumulated. I wanted to try repurposing the several stale loaves of bread we discovered in our freezer as opposed to throwing them out.

Other than that we’ll have our usual turkey, mallow topped sweet potato bake, green bean casserole, ginger cranberry sauce, maple pumpkin cheese cake and rolls. I might even make up some turkey gravy this time around but we wont be giving thanks or feasting until Friday.

Hopefully you are having a great day and enjoying some good food. E and I are just cuddled up and lounging around the house. Supposedly it could be a white Thanksgiving for us.

So, once we do eat turkey do you think the tryptophan will pass through my breast milk to E making her all relaxed and sleepy too?

Everly napping on the way to pick up our turkey ysterday

Happy Thanksgiving! We tried Sizzler’s Turkey dinner today. The ham was good but the turkey was horrible… if you could call it actual turkey. So, I feel bad for my family and am going to cook a small bird tomorrow. And go light on the extra stuff! LOTS of pie tonight, though.
    love to all

We didn’t do Thanksgiving on Thursday because I had to work. So, we’re doing it today (Friday). I can’t wait for turkey with all the trimmings…..yummy! Enjoy your feast :)

Homemade stuffing is the best, though I don’t think I’ve ever made it with just loaf bread. Ours is always at least half cornbread. The other bread usually gets ‘repurposed’ too often into bread pudding.

I didn’t ask questions about the roast turkey and chicken my step-sister served yesterday… I just ate (and ate and ate…) But there’s a good chance both were organic and free-range as there were both in the yard until they had to be penned up to protect them from the numerous children who were having way too much fun chasing them.

Anyway, having been around free-range fowl from an early age and observing what they will eat… I didn’t really want to know either way!

What a meal! I’m glad we waited until Friday to do our Thanksgiving. My wife did a great job with all of her cooking of side dishes and desert. I dried out the turkey a bit or maybe it’s because it wasn’t injected with chemicals…hmm…either way I still enjoyed supporting a local farming and getting some good meat. We now have lots of leftovers to play with and maybe, we’ll whip up some turkey gravy for the leftovers!
