The sleepless haze of sleeping in a new place.

We arrived at The Farm safely but had a pretty rough 48 hours with the sleepless Everly. We fully expected to have an adjustment period with her in the new surroundings.

Each time we take a trip or stay the night somewhere other than our home she can’t relax and sleep. She’s very particular about sleeping in her own bed. Arriving at The Farm was no exception.

We even allowed ourselves plenty of “explore the place and get settled in” time but it didn’t seem to make things better. After adhering to her bedtime schedule to the T she still wasn’t going for sleeping in “her room” that we got all set up. The idea of having her in her own space is obviously preferable since we’ve got the space, option and baby on the way but she’s just not that keen on being away from us.

You’d think the easy solution would be to just allow her to sleep with us in our bed or in our room and we tried this too. She just couldn’t relax regardless. It seems to be more of an issue with the strange surroundings and the excitement of that than the insecurity of being scared and away from her parents.

Nathan did get her to sleep for about 5 hours while sleeping in her room with her but she startled awake at 3 am and didn’t go back down afterward. It was a rough first night in our new home away from home basically.

If discomfort is any indication of pending labor I am on my way. My tailbone and pelvis is just aching pretty much nonstop at this point. I feel that Baby Sister is dropped as my boobs no longer rest on my belly. I’ll be glad when labor starts. I am “due” in 9 days going by the ultrasound date estimate so we will see. All is right on track for the live streaming video of my labor, rain or shine… Rather night or day :) Join us if you feel inclined.

We are settled in and enjoying our surroundings very much, despite the sleepless haze that is hanging over us. Today we figured we would take advantage of the time together and try to relax out at the famous swimming hole out here at The Farm.

The cool water was so nice on my hurting pelvis and back. Everly enjoyed the water and the fun time with everyone. She always loves a new experience! Tadpoles, crawdads, fish, rocks and general water fun were just a few highlights. I know we will be back to swim often over the course of this trip.

Everly really started getting tired for a bit while we were lounging out there in the sun and breeze but we kept her occupied and active, hoping it would make for a more sleep-filled evening. Wishful thinking?

After spending several hours out there with our midwife and her family it seems we’ve successfully exhausted Everly to the point of unavoidable sleep. Problem is she crashed right before dinner and not in a bed.

Both Daddy and Miss Everly passed out as soon as The Wiggles started playing on our loaner portable DVD player. She awoke just before dinner time and wasn’t a very chipper girl. Lack of sleep is catching up to her.

After some food in the belly and a mother/ daughter bath she’s quietly laying in her bed watching The Wiggles and *hopefully* dozing peacefully off to sleep for the night. It has been quiet so far but it’s still too soon to gauge the success of things.

Fingers are crossed that more sleep is had tonight than the previous evening!
