The last time I showered in New Mexico…

What is it with shower situations in New Mexico? We are spending the night in Tucumcari, NM this time around. We got a cheap hotel to spend the night in and unfortunately it only has a shower.
You see it’s a cheap hotel, tiny, clean and shower-less with a super loud heater… You get what you pay for.
Anyway, it’s been a pretty chilly 24 hours for us and all I wanted was some warm water to warm my bones and relax my muscles. It’s freezing so I was not looking to do a complete hair washing and all that, just want to get the body clean, warm and relaxed. Gotta do it in the shower though.
It could be worse though. Poor Everly had to get clean in the sink tonight…
The last time I showered in New Mexico it was at Ute State Park where we were power-washed with cold water. Yep, go back and read the post if you are curious. It was a heck of a time!
This time the shower sprays almost completely horizontal. You know how normally shower heads spray water downward? This one was pointed downward but it sprays all directly across and right in to the wall.
To top it all off the little shower is like cubby-sized so I had to literally stand with my nose like an inch from the wall and on my tip-toes in order to get the water to spray on my back and not on the hair piled on top of my head (that was supposed to stay dry).
I almost asked N to bring me a chair or stool to stand on in the shower so that I could get myself in the right position for the water spray. Sheesh.
Guess it is better than power-wash-type force or a soak in the sink though.

It’s always interesting what you get when you pay very little….
My husband and I travel across the US each summer for work…we are always in for an adventure because of the budget, but we’ve decided to return to some of the “cheap” places because the owners were so nice.
Ugh! Nothing worse than a bad shower to start the day off wrong. At least Everly still fits in the sink! I can just imagine if that happened to us, my husband would be down at the check-in desk, ranting!

My mother would say you are lucky. When I was 7 years old, my sister still in diapers… my mother had a water pump fail in Tucumcari. This was before the days of Visa/Mastercard and getting the repair paid for involved a bank transfer… which involved my father who was adamant that no water pump for that car could possibly cost that much.
In the end, the repair shop was guilty of charging my mother twice the customary charge because they thought she’d pay anything to get the car going again. They just didn’t count on my father making the local bank his advocate partner and getting the charge reduced to “normal”.
And all of that made my mother absolutely furious that the mechanics would try to rip her off simply because she was female. That was the day I learned about tears of anger and rage and the day that Tucumcari earned it’s reputation as a place to drive through quickly without stopping.
Seriously… in the 50 years since then (and numerous trips through NM) not once have I stopped for so much as a cup of coffee in Tucumcari.
We stopped at a cheap motel in Louisville, Kentucky one time. The telephone was sticky and the bed had, um, evidence of the previous guest still in it. We left, but not before taking pictures. I sent the pictures to the owner, along with a not so nice letter, and we received a refund and an apology, but that didn’t get us a place to sleep that night.

Everly looked like she enjoyed her sink bath
I guess in the grand scheme of things, its a bonus that you had hot water.
Anyway, I’m happy that all 3 of you arrived home safely!

LOL, good point Becky! Never thought of that.
As ex-hotel employees we know all about what cheap rates get you… You truly get what you pay for in places like that, makes for fun blog stories though ;-P
What an awful story Donna! We had ice cream in Tucumcari when we were moving out to Indiana it’s nothing special that is for sure. Tucumscary rally does ring true then! One of the locals told us that is what they call the place.
Well, Everly is cute whether she is clean or not! LOL!
