The Farm Experence: Birthing with The Farm Midwives in Summertown, TN
Posted on Aug 13 in Blogging Baby Sister's Arrival, parenting, personal stories, pregnancyby TalinaPrint
Once you turn on to the main drag in Summertown, Tennessee you’ll likely be greeted with the sight of an Amish buggy in the gas station parking lot. Sometimes complete with an adorable (and so uncomfortably dressed) Amish family either selling things or taking a water break for the horses or something to that tune.
As you approach the road with the sign directing visitors to “The Farm” you’ll begin to notice everyone is waving at you as you drive by. The Farm is very much a community like one you’ve never seen before.
[POPUP=IMG1]While it is not hard core commune style living anymore they still hold firmly to the concept of unity, togetherness and partnership. One of our favorite things is the community garden that everyone plants in. In 2009 when Everly was born at The Farm our midwife had beans planted out there. The community garden is very much a representation of what The Farm is about these days.
The shared land, beliefs and goals are all interlaced with the history of the place and the hard work it took to get to where things are now. Yet each family or unit basically has the freedom and the space to do as they will.
Various businesses run out of The Farm. The Farm Midwives are just one branch of the very diverse collection of talents and skills at The Farm. This year’s most recently notable business expansion is the solar panels visible as you head toward The Farm Store which we are in awe of.
Today we head off to be near our midwife out at The Farm and will enjoy being submerged in the truly magical community atmosphere, the slower paced life and will hopefully have another blessed home birth experience.
Everly is ready, she keeps asking when baby sister will come home today… “Not until we go back to The Farm, Sweetpea.” we tell her. She will be included in the birth experience, we believe this is super important. Rather than excluding her, sheltering her or dumping her off somewhere so she’s out of the way, we want to have her be part of it all.
Who knows, she may be a home birthing woman one day too. Plus, we feel it will be a beautiful bonding experience… She’s excited, we are all really looking forward to meeting the 4th member of our family!

am VERY glad that you made it to the farm and are settled in... cant wait for the livestream... and know that I am sending happy and relaxing thoughts to you...

LikeWe've been talking about it for some time. She gets the "squishing out part" but it's debatable weather or not she''ll get concerned over the blood and the actual sight of it. I can already bet she'll be concerned that I'm not okay and that will be a big issue for her. But with Nathan and the midwives around it will all be over and okay before we know it.
