maiden53: I'm not actually sure what the elephant toes turned out to be. The West Side Nut Club's Fall Festival is an interesting culinary adventure of some of the weirdest and most obscure food items. You can get things like BBQ alligator jerky, burgoo, stuffed pepper soup and quakwurst (yes, that's sausage made with duck). Then there are the booths that think of weird exotic dishes to counteract all of those ones like Elephent Toes, Elephant Ears, Pigs in the Mud and Puppy Chow. Puppy Chow happens to be a Chex Mix-like snack mixture. Pigs in the Mud, were strips of bacon baked into a small chocolate cake and drizzled with some type of chocolate or caramel sauce. Pig Lickers are another great one. Those are pieces of bacon dipped in chocolate.

I like a little bit of adventure but will stick to the more mainstream items like Pronto Pups, Fried Green Beans and maybe a fried Oreo or two ;-)

How fun! We didn't hit the fall festival this year but I really enjoy reading about everyone's culinary adventures. Thanks for sharing.
