I’ve got mad fever!

No, I am not talking scarlet fever or hay fever… It’s SPRING fever around here! Thankfully we’ve kicked our cold (I should say E and I kicked it, N might be coming down with it now). So things are more productive here especially since the weekend was warmer than usual, basically it was NOT jacket weather [...]

The day of red

18 months ago, thanks to my Fertility Awareness Method charting I knew I was pregnant, before I’d even missed my period. Now, over a year later I am back in the world of fertile women and am reminded of how bad it sucks to have “that time of the month” again… Oh and we have to [...]

Road trip adventures Everly enjoyed.

Whew! After a week on the road we needed a day to decompress after getting back to Evansville. Yesterday we sat around in our PJ’s, did many loads of laundry, scrubbed cat vomit from the carpets, cleaned cat boxes… You know all the chores and stuff that go undone while you are away. Everly was a [...]

What is it with shower situations in New Mexico? We are spending the night in Tucumcari, NM this time around. We got a cheap hotel to spend the night in and unfortunately it only has a shower. You see it’s a cheap hotel, tiny, clean and shower-less with a super loud heater… You get what you [...]

The last time I showered in New Mexico…

We are on the road in our newly fixed car! After flying here and hanging out with family and friends it’s now time to make the trip back home, in our car. We spent much time this morning debating weather or not it was a good idea to make the trek up north to I-40 [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

Here are my tweets as they played out during the night and early hours of the morning. I didn’t realized it would reach so many people. At first I was just tweeting so my husband would know what was going on, then I kept tweeting to be sure I didn’t leave anyone in the dark. [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

It’s true. N and I got the holiday ham that keeps on giving. It seems we have food poisoning or something… It’s been an ongoing thing for over a week now. We just tossed several pounds of ham leftovers after we figured it was the culprit, also tossed the spinach salad just for good measure. [...]

Dazed, anxiety ridden and plagued with ham disease.

Christmas 2009 as parents.

I never thought I would be such a gingerbread cookie fiend! Last week we made up a ton of cookies to get in the holiday spirit and also so N would have cookies to take in to work for everyone. We’d been trying different gingerbread cookie recipes each year, nothing was particularly impressive and I thought [...]

Someone is excited about the holiday!

She’s not even walking yet and she’s already being a stinker about opening gifts early. After her gift snagging earlier in the week we moved all the gift bags and stuff with ribbon away from her reach. We thought the paper and curly ribbon was attracting her attention. Looks like she’s smarter about this gift [...]

I have a confession. I am fairly certain twitter is killing my creativity! I’ve been having issues with blog content since Everly’s birth. Sure I am a busy mom who is working part time in addition to caring for a new baby. Yeah, computer time is limited these days… The thing is it’s not the time that [...]

Baby leg warmers crochet fun

I’ve been working on making E a pair of baby legwarmers since October. I just finished them today which is kind of a big deal. You see I tend to start and never finish my knit and crochet projects… Today will probably be the only day she’ll wear them since it took me two months to [...]

All the trees are naked and it is very close to freezing at night now. Thanksgiving is just right around the corner and we aren’t really sure where the year has gone. Life is blowing by so fast and it just feels like we are standing here in a blur while it all swirls around us [...]

Today we are proud home owners!

Well, we’ve done it! Several years of planning and thousands of dollars later… We are now the proud owners of our own home! N was bummed that we had no “sold” sign to pose with out on the front lawn though… We may just have to stage it anyway, kind of like this: We went in [...]

This will be the first weekend in probably a month or so that we’ll have to relax and get caught up on things. Marching season has come and gone, my 9th marching season is now over.

Sure winterguard plans and ideas are in the works but it wont be until January when the performance madness picks up again. This means our house will be cleaner, stress levels will be lower and we might even do some leisurely fun things as a family.

Tomorrow the plan is just grocery shopping and taking care of the house.

Speaking of the house, we AREN’T closed on it yet. We were going to sign the paperwork today but we ran in to more issues. Specifically the seller wasn’t okay with the closing terms that she had previously signed an amendment for. We had to hash some things out with her aka throw more money at the situation. We should be closed by Monday.

Oh, E is laughing now… Well she’s been laughing since last weekend actually. She has just totally completed our little family and we are enjoying each and every second with her.

She’s still getting those teeth in and things are progressively getting rougher during the days. The usual fussy times are more frequent and harder to remedy. I even tried the whiskey on the gums thing yesterday. She just made a crazy face thanks to the taste of the whiskey and it didn’t seem like it helped her pain any.

She’s getting way more animated these days, like with the whiskey face. She now scowls and makes her “ewe gross face” for teething tablets, Anbesol, catnip drops and whiskey. She still doesn’t mind the dye free infant tylenol taste. She sucks that stuff right down.

She’s even showing some interest in the things we are eating and drinking which means solid foods are just around the corner. We have been sitting her in her high chair for short periods of time so she’ll get used to it by the time she’s ready for solids.

I plan to try extended breastfeeding her so we’ll just be waiting until she’s starts grabbing for foods and showing other signs that she’s ready for solids. I really like all the health benefits of breastfeeding, especially the protection she gets from illness so I am in no hurry to get her off the breast.

We are also still cloth diapering so delaying solids also keeps diaper laundry easy. Breast milk poop is runny and I can just toss the poop filled diaper right in the wash without rinsing or spraying solids off it as long as she’s only taking breast milk.

So yeah… rest, recuperation and loving up Everly… Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

You don’t have to stop breastfeeding while starting her on cereal or even while she’s eating solids. You can start her off with trying some Single Grain Rice cereal and it has to be mixed with something to the consistancy that you want , so I used to mix Riley’s with my breastmilk and feed it to him.
It will help her fill up more and also it will teach her how to start eating solids. She’s old enough to start her on stage 1 foods too like Bananas and stuff like that. A suggestion maybe would be to try to start feeding her solids but also still pumping so your not losing your milk supply, and then you can freeze your milk that she’s not using right away.

Awww, I’m loving all the Everly pictures! What a doll she is. I think your plan of keeping her on the breast until she gives you signs that she is ready to move on to solids is a great idea. I think you will know when she is ready and you seem to doing a great job as a mom. Enjoy your rest and recuperation while you can! :)
