Road trip adventures Everly enjoyed.

Whew! After a week on the road we needed a day to decompress after getting back to Evansville. Yesterday we sat around in our PJ’s, did many loads of laundry, scrubbed cat vomit from the carpets, cleaned cat boxes… You know all the chores and stuff that go undone while you are away. Everly was a [...]

Road trip adventures Everly enjoyed.

What is it with shower situations in New Mexico? We are spending the night in Tucumcari, NM this time around. We got a cheap hotel to spend the night in and unfortunately it only has a shower. You see it’s a cheap hotel, tiny, clean and shower-less with a super loud heater… You get what you [...]

The last time I showered in New Mexico…

We are on the road in our newly fixed car! After flying here and hanging out with family and friends it’s now time to make the trip back home, in our car. We spent much time this morning debating weather or not it was a good idea to make the trek up north to I-40 [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

Here are my tweets as they played out during the night and early hours of the morning. I didn’t realized it would reach so many people. At first I was just tweeting so my husband would know what was going on, then I kept tweeting to be sure I didn’t leave anyone in the dark. [...]

Live Blogging: Cat Swallows Needle

It’s true. N and I got the holiday ham that keeps on giving. It seems we have food poisoning or something… It’s been an ongoing thing for over a week now. We just tossed several pounds of ham leftovers after we figured it was the culprit, also tossed the spinach salad just for good measure. [...]

Dazed, anxiety ridden and plagued with ham disease.

Christmas 2009 as parents.

I never thought I would be such a gingerbread cookie fiend! Last week we made up a ton of cookies to get in the holiday spirit and also so N would have cookies to take in to work for everyone. We’d been trying different gingerbread cookie recipes each year, nothing was particularly impressive and I thought [...]

Someone is excited about the holiday!

She’s not even walking yet and she’s already being a stinker about opening gifts early. After her gift snagging earlier in the week we moved all the gift bags and stuff with ribbon away from her reach. We thought the paper and curly ribbon was attracting her attention. Looks like she’s smarter about this gift [...]

Someone is excited about the holiday!

I have a confession. I am fairly certain twitter is killing my creativity! I’ve been having issues with blog content since Everly’s birth. Sure I am a busy mom who is working part time in addition to caring for a new baby. Yeah, computer time is limited these days… The thing is it’s not the time that [...]

Baby leg warmers crochet fun

I’ve been working on making E a pair of baby legwarmers since October. I just finished them today which is kind of a big deal. You see I tend to start and never finish my knit and crochet projects… Today will probably be the only day she’ll wear them since it took me two months to [...]

All the trees are naked and it is very close to freezing at night now. Thanksgiving is just right around the corner and we aren’t really sure where the year has gone. Life is blowing by so fast and it just feels like we are standing here in a blur while it all swirls around us [...]

Today we are proud home owners!

Well, we’ve done it! Several years of planning and thousands of dollars later… We are now the proud owners of our own home! N was bummed that we had no “sold” sign to pose with out on the front lawn though… We may just have to stage it anyway, kind of like this: We went in [...]

Today we are proud home owners!

This will be the first weekend in probably a month or so that we’ll have to relax and get caught up on things. Marching season has come and gone, my 9th marching season is now over. Sure winterguard plans and ideas are in the works but it wont be until January when the performance madness picks [...]

Sigh… Rest and recuperation are in order.

To my baby girl at 20 weeks

Dear Sweet Everly, You are now 20 weeks old/ 5 months today. Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I was holding you for the first time. When we first brought you home from The Farm it felt like time was going so slow as we learned your needs and got used to being [...]

To my baby girl at 20 weeks

Before becoming a parent I really had no idea just how busy things could get. Sure back in my pre-parenthood days it felt busy and hectic but in comparison to how it is now I really had it easy back then. Now things truly are insanely busy and I could probably benefit from some crack, ADD [...]

Super, crazy- busy is an understatement!

Reflections on the heart of our home…

You know I am a blogging contest fan right? Sure you do! Well, I’ve found another contest that I am super stoked to try winning… It’s the “Where Is the Heart of Your Home?” contest.

Remember back in the day when I was pondering motherhood and cloth diapering and didn’t have a washer or dryer? I jokingly blogged about washing laundry in the pond behind our house. Well eventually we were able to get our hands on a very old and loud washer and we also got an older dryer, both are on the verge of death though.

That is why when I saw the heart of your home contest I knew I had to try entering, you win a Samsung washer and dryer and we could really used them around here!

The heart of our home is a toss up between the bedroom and the living room these days. The bedroom is a hot spot because we all sleep in there, as in all three of us. Since Everly is so young still she’s not sleeping in her own room yet. So we’ve got changing table fun, the swing, the pack n play, a play mat… practically everything baby is up there!

Everly has shot poop around up there, learned to roll over and so much more. Shoot, for a good month after E was born we all lived up there as a family while I was on bed rest following my 4th degree tear. E was even sleeping in the bed with us through the nights. The bedroom is definitly one of the hearts of our home.

Thankfully, now that Everly is getting more active and playful we’ve also been able to begin enjoying our living room more and more. In the living room we can all hang out and get many things done there. I can be found stuffing cloth diapers or folding laundry.

We often have out laptops out when we are hanging out there too. Everly has a playmat, bouncy seat and tons of toys so she’s able to enjoy her time in there as well. Shoot, the cats even have a fun little hangout in the living room.

Versatility makes the heart of the home for us. The more we can all do in that area the more likely we are to gather there and spend time. It’s a convenience factor in our house… So, what kinds of stuff makes your "heart of the home" room so popular?

Toss up for me… the kitchen, because I have 2 or more teenage boys and a husband to feed – or – the front room… that is where the XBOX 360 is and all of the boys!

While it’s not a place where we spend time together, I certainly a laundry room is vital to a home! Though none were in diapers, I’ve done the laundromat thing and hated every minute of it.

The heart of my home is the kitchen/dining room. It opens to the den also (double doors, so it’s a wide opening, sort of making it 3 room combo. So many memories are centered here.

Currently the heart of our home is the kitchen. I spend a lot of time preparing food for 4 kiddos and now a 5th (born 5 days ago!). The living room sees a lot of action too; wrestling with daddy, watching movies and eating popcorn, reading books with the kids, etc. I just got a new washer myself and I LOVE it! Funny how new appliances can get this mom excited now ;)

I would have to say the great room. I work there, watch tv there, and entertain guests there as well. It’s really a huge room.

  • Great post! I would say that ours would probably be our family room – it’s the biggest room in our house, toys & tv are in there, lots of room for the kids to spread out & play and it’s just generally where we spend most of our time.

I would have to say its the kitchen we definatley spend a lot of time there and like that old saying goes a way to a man’s heart is through is stomach so that works for our family!

I hope you win! I did diapers by hand in the bathtub when my kids were little. When I found out I was pregnant with the third one, I sat down in a chair and refused to do another thing until my husband bought a washing machine. At least then I could wash them and then just hang them out to dry.

Ours would have to be the family room/kitchen all in one big room. I can see the kids from the kitchen, there are toys strewn from one end to the other…it’s full of natural light and it’s where we spend most of our time.

I got a new, high capacity washer a few years ago and I LOVE IT. And it uses very little water.
