Prenatal insomnia returns… What mothers-to-be can look forward to.

Nature is funny sometimes. In the months leading up to the arrival of your new baby your sleep cycle is messed up time and time again. However, this is the very time sleep should be savored and enjoyed since you are about to be forced to endure months of sleep deprivation.

First sleep is interrupted by the constant need to pee every twenty minutes or so throughout the night, then once the 2nd trimester hits you might notice manic moments where you are overcome with anxiety that keeps you awake at night.

Later, if you are like me, you’ll find yourself awake for no apparent reason at some ungodly hour with no anxiety or real issues, other than you know, the obvious wanting to be asleep. Laying there, thinking it will pass does not help either. Soon you’ll think of all the things you’d like to do or that you’ve forgotten to do and you might even notice how laying in bed wishing to be asleep is a blatent waste of your precious, fleeting time.

So then you drag yourself up and go about being awake outside your bed for awhile which is smart because prenatal insomnia does not relent for hours and hours, until of course everyone else is awake and going about the day. Then you can hardly keep from falling asleep.

It truly is Mother Nature’s sick little conditioning of mothers-to-be. It is like she’s saying, “Might as well get used to sleep deprivation and learn how to function now, before a little person’s life is in your hands”.

Well thanks for that, Mother Nature. I kind of already knew the about the sleepless, shitty times ahead being this is my second child and all. Now let me get some damn sleep before my child and husband wake up.

Oh, shit… Guess I missed out cause here they come.
