Pondering birthdays and recovering from a weekend away

Over the weekend we spent the night at another crappy hotel following the band/ colorguard’s performance at Louisville Bands of America. The group finished 7th out of 10 bands in class 3A and 15th overall out of 26 bands. They made much improvement and did great!
We took E along and everyone commented on her throughout the day. She had to be fed almost constantly because of her teething pain but it was manageable.
Everly is really getting the hang of this trip taking thing and N is getting the hang of baby junk set up and tear down. It is a good thing too as we are going to have to make a cross country drive with her in January when we go back to Arizona to pick up our second car and drive it back here.
On Sunday we visited Lincoln’s boyhood home here in Indiana on our way home from the band competition. N carried her around in the SnugliĀ® and she just looked all around and took it all in as you can see:

She is getting so big and smart so fast… It seriously blows my mind that our baby girl is teething too! She’s almost four months old now. Just rolled from her back to her stomach for the first time today, she does great holding her head up, is talking like crazy (even screaming) and it all just seems like it is going by so fast!
This friday marks her official first year of age as it will be one year since conception at that point. Sure she’ll be 3 months 15 days according everyone else but technically it will be 1 year since life began for her in my mind.
I am not gonna lie, it kind of bugs me that birthdays are based upon the day one was born and not on the day one’s life began. Does the some 9 months a child spends inside the womb growing and developing not count? I think it should. Why aren’t more people ticked off about this?
