Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat nor… Wait, nevermind.

The postal pledge dates back to Herodotus (484-425 B.C.) who said:

“Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” (source)

Well, if you live in my neighborhood this pledge does not ring true! Snow, trash cans and even cars parked on the street can mean your postal carrier wont deliver your mail.

Basically anything the prevents the carrier from driving directly up to your mailbox is a no-no. The carrier will not lean out of the mail truck or walk a few steps to place your mail in the mailbox, you are just S.O.L. in my neighborhood.

We learned this lesson after we parked our 2nd car out on the street one day. It was not blocking the mailbox but it certainly wasn’t 30 feet away from it either. There isn’t even that much room between our mailbox and the neighbors driveway!

The following day when our car was back in the driveway and away from the mailbox at delivery time we received this letter along with a gianormus stack of undelivered mail:

Now a neighbor’s lover has parked their car in front of our house and went on a trip it seems… The least they could have done was block the neighbor’s own mail delivery but no! They had to block ours instead. Kind of rude if you ask me. N left them a note on their car stating this.

It seems our mail carrier will however get out of the mail truck to walk halfway through our yard so he can chuck a package at our gate though. Yeah, the package is thrown as opposed to placed nicely… but the mail carrier does get out of the mail truck in that instance? WTF!

We called and spoke to a postal carrier supervisor and was told it’s against UNION CONTRACT for the carrier to step out of his vehicle to deliver when the box is blocked”.  But they do step out to throw packages across our yard and at our house.

Not sure what we are supposed to do about the person’s car blocking our mail delivery as it’s parked and hasn’t moved in a few days. It’s no wonder the postal service is going broke… Lots seems to be ass backwards about how they roll.

We had a problem w/our mail woman. We complained about her and the supervisor was nice and said he would look into it. She did the same thing again and we called a second time. Supervisor's response: Well the only way I believe we can solve this is to just stop delivering mail to your house. Then you will not have a problem w/her!
Apparently they can stop delivery and when it comes down to your word against theirs, they are going to win and you will have to go to post office to get mail!
Be careful, don't complain too much. They will cut you off the route!!

Thinking of just converting bills to all electronic. Not dealing with them might not be such an awful thing after all.

call the local police dept and have it towed as an abandoned car

  1. [...] After leaving a note for the neighbor and getting no response we broke down and called the Sheriff. The Sheriff also left a notice about the “abandoned vehicle” on said neighbors door. Amazingly it’s now been moved from in front of our house/ mailbox which means we’ll actually get our darn mail after almost a week of refused delivery. [...]
