Less-Words Wednesday

Over the weekend we dropped another small fortune at the home improvement store and came home with many more things to install, build with or attach to things.

Tuesday’s task was lawn mowing and animal proofing the garden space. Things are growing up a storm in there. Mustard greens, pac choi and spinach will be ready to harvest so soon!

Other things are taking off like the snow peas, lettuce, broccoli, collard greens, rhubarb, onion, strawberry, potato and so much more. We’ve been plugging away at garden planning and maintenance for two months and finally are beginning to see the fruits of our labor (cheesy, I know! I couldn’t help it!).

Here is what we started out with as the blueprint:

As things get planted we pencil them on the map. It is exciting to see all the seedlings spring to life and we are excited to get our summer crops going soon. You know things like tomato, zucchini, melon and all that.

*disclaimer* Don’t read this next part while eating or drinking. I know some of you have had some unfortunate times with consuming food or beverage while reading my blog. You’ve had fair warning.

In other news (and either you’ll be disappointed or thankful that I don’t have photos of it) we woke this morning to the alarm clock. I had planned to meet Dana (a new local gal I’ve met through social media connections) for a walk around the zoo this morning. You know in an effort to get myself and E out of the house and to meet people.

Everly was rousing at the sound of our alarm and was calling to be retrieved so N went to get her so I could nurse her in the cozy, warm bed. He noticed the room smelled a little sour but it was dark so he just figured it was a sour poopy diaper or something. He brings her up the stairs to me and sees that she’s got some dried stuff on her sleeper.

There are things stuck in her hair… then he makes the connection. She’s covered in vomit or poop or something. She gets plopped down for me to nurse and man is the sour vomit smell kind of overpowering. We tag-team stripped her while she was nursing and then she just curled up against my warm body under the covers while she continued eating.

Meanwhile I am trying to keep from gagging at the smell of the vomit and the sight of chunks in her hair. Also, some dried vomit chunks have come off her and are now lingering crumbs in our bed… Not the best way to start the morning if you ask me.

When she’s unlatched herself and had her fill of breastmilk we take her down stairs to give her a bath. It’s still early and if we work fast we can be dressed and make our zoo date still. Then as she is sitting in the tub she turns to me and shoots breastmilk about 4-3 inches with her projectile vomiting.

Crap! She is still sick? And more importantly why on earth didn’t she get more upset after she vomited cups and cups of macaroni and cheese all over her crib in the middle of the night? How can you just vomit the contests of your full tummy in your bed and all over your clothes, then roll over in it and go back to sleep?

I mean the vomit she was covered in was dry as the desert. Normally she’ll wake at least once between her 6:30pm bedtime and her 6-8amish wake up time. Usually it is when daddy gets home. Last night she didn’t make a peep (that we heard) for 13 straight hours, while her vomit was drying and crusting.

Anyway back to the story… She proceed to vomit all the breast milk she just consumed. She did this over the course of 3-4 hours then crashed out for a nice solid 2+ hour afternoon nap. Now she appears to be fine and is in bed for the night. Hopefully we don’t find her vomit covered again in the morning.

Oh, on the plus side I did get to learn that a macaroni and cheese vomit stain (you know bright yellowish orange) on a white sheet cam be removed by a cold wash followed by a hot wash and then a drying on the clothes line where the sun can bleach out the stain. The once stained white crib sheet now looks as good as new again. Yay.
