Happy first day of 2010!

I know 2009 was a bad year for so many, lots of people are ready for a new start… We are too, but for us 2009 was basically a good year. Sure there were hard times, bad moments, struggles, hardships but all in all we were very blessed.
I was pregnant with our first child as we rang in 2009. We got to move out of our moldy, crappy rental. We found a new home to rent and got moved before baby came. Everly was born at The Farm and labor was perfect. We got approved for a mortgage to buy the house we were renting and we closed on it before the end of the year. I went back to teaching, N’s job remained secure and with foresight, planning and major penny pinching we were able to survive the recession okay.
I’ve grown closer to some friends and family while having to distance myself from other friends and family. The recession and times of hardship have put strains on some personal relationships. Mainly we are learning that many people, rather than being happy for us in good times are growing jealous and resentful of us for whatever reason.
I’ve never really understood why some people need to be in constant competition with others, either consciously or subconsciously. It’s sad that the ones you most expect to be in your corner turn out to only be judging and resenting you when you find success…
On a lighter note, I was looking back at the blog post topics of the year and was surprised to see how much poop talk I’ve published. I guess it is to be expected since being a new mom means dealing with all sorts of gross stuff, right?
For instance, I looked back at this pretty funny video of my 4 day old daughter squirting poop on my inexperienced ass. Why on earth was I changing the diaper so slowly and why was she naked for so long? Because I was 4 days postpartum and clueless. The poop spray made me good and wise though.
Then I remembered how just over 2 months later, while I was back to work I had the pleasure of being pooed all over while on the job. Luckily a coworker had an extra shirt in her car she let me borrow. I then learned to always have a change of clothes for both baby AND mommy in the diaper bag!
Then after so much abundant poop spraying and leaking my girl just went and dried up once we introduced solids and I have been fretting over the sudden lack of poop lately.
Then comes the excitingly gross and somewhat dreadful first few solid food poops. Those compared to the pretty unoffensive breastfeeding poops we’ve enjoyed for the last 6 months are quite different. Breastfeeding poop is way better than solid food poop in my book!
So, yeah… Happy 2010 to everyone. Here is to a better year and possibly some other things to be consumed by, other than baby poop.

It has been one hell of a year! I can’t believe the whirlwind we’ve been on since we moved from Arizona almost a year and a half ago now. Like every thing else that’s thrown at us though, we take it, deal with it and keep on going. Here’s to a prosperous and as always, exciting New Year!
Everything with Everly reminds me of Emily. They were born so close together too!
I loved the breastfeeding poops, you couldnt even tell when they had done one. Now I can smell one straight away. Sometimes it’s stuck too and I need more than baby wipes to wipe it off.
Keep blogging abot the gross stuff because as mothers we have all been through it
(and those who are yet to be parents can get some insight)
