Away in a manger…

Holiday decorations are so much fun. We are digging ours out today and beginning the fall to winter decor transition. On Friday when we were celebrating our Thanksgiving we got to watch our neighbors and their holiday decoration ritual. It was good for a laugh or two.

First off these are neighbors that are hardly ever home. For fall they had a bale of hay, a scarecrow, some pumpkins and gourds all spread around in a nice holiday spread. For most of friday morning the neighbor was gingerly picking and scraping up the rotten, moldy gourds and pumpkins with a shovel. It seemed he was trying to preserve the bale of hay.

By the afternoon he was putting up new decor… a craptastic, I mean interesting little cheap looking cardboard manger that is propped up against the bale of hay.

Now normally we don’t rag on people for nothing. I mean we don’t even really dwell on the ridiculous, white-trash blow up/ snow globe yard decor that so many people here love. But when you spend so long and are so stinking anal about one simple little two dimensional cardboard cutout you are bound to be the butt of some jokes.

He seriously spent an entire day fussing with his cardboard manger! N facebooked:

Cooking the turkey and laughing my ass off…the neighbors are still futzing with the cardboard manger. This is going on like 4 hours now and they’ve spent most of the afternoon standing in the street staring at it…beer bottles and smokes in hand.

Here is what all the fuss was about:

We hope to get our decorations tackled today but I assure you drinks, smokes and hours of pondering won’t take place! That doesn’t mean the neighbors wont have an ordeal to chuckle at though.

We might have to use our car to get on the roof of the house though, since we don’t own a ladder. We’ll be providing the holiday decor entertainment today. Hopefully nobody gets hurt. LOL.
