A personal note to friends…

Oh my goodness, we did it! We kept a child alive and also survived the 2yr old birthday party situation.

When Everly was born we were blown away by the fact that we now had this tiny human being to keep alive, teach and look after. It really does seem like so much of a responsibility in those first few days/ weeks after your baby is born. Then you learn to adjust your thinking and just take things one stinking day at a time so you aren’t to overwhelmed or scared by the hugeness of the situation.

Parenting is something else, it’s hard to explain, people without kids wont get it… it basically just opens your eyes to a whole other reality you never knew existed.

For instance, 2yr old birthday parties… Well, kids just wanna play and have fun. I was freaking about goodie bags (that I forgot to hand out), RSVPs, shade covers and whether or not the damn grass would grow in my yard in time for the party.

As grownups we get so consumed by all this other extraneous crap… Sure it might directly impact us but the kiddos totally don’t give a crap about any of it. Looking back at Everly’s experience of her party I can see this.

Having kids over that she could have fun with was basically what made the event. It wasn’t the Elmo decor or the cake or the gifts she did or didn’t get. So we are super thankful to those that came and shared some time with us yesterday. We enjoyed it very much.

Thrusting in to parenthood right after you leave your home state/ quadrant of the country behind is rough because your support network becomes non-existent.

The people we’ve become friends with here in Evansville have been a great source of support and it’s been nice to have someone to share the 1st and now 2nd birthdays with. The mishmosh of people we knew from various places must have seemed weird to those in attendance.

Some might think meeting close friends via social media, blogging, in a doctors office, because you’re neighbors, co-workers or because you share similar beliefs is odd. We think it is great. While we’ve only known these people for a short while the time has been a blessing and we are honored to share these moments of life.

It’s also a blessing to have so many far away friends keeping in touch thanks to social media and blogging. Without all these friendships I really don’t know were we would be or how things would have turned out so thank you all.

Hmm . . . let me try that again.

The cake turned out great!

(I've got to learn to reread my posts carefully before I hit submit.)

The great turned out great! I'm glad the piping gel method worked for you. :)

Oh, and your daughter is adorable!
