A lazy weekend, what is that?

We had 2 whole days to stay home and chill this last weekend. Friday night to Saturday morning it snowed 3 inches. Apparently it was lots of snowfall for the area… 2nd highest snowfall record according to the National Weather Service.

It’s nothing compared to the roof collapsing snow we dodged on our way home from Arizona though. Anyway, the lack of snow removal resources here in Evansville means it’s best to stay home and off the roads whenever it snows. So we had 2 whole days home to chill.

Of course we didn’t chill. We’ve still got boxes to unpack from our move 10 months ago and there is always cat piss to mop, litter boxes to clean, laundry to wash, hairballs to vacuum etc.

We did sit down and play Wii for a portion of one evening after E was asleep. She’s weighing in at 15.5 lbs according to Wii Fit Plus and we also learned the weights of all our cats. Gabby is the lightest at 8.5 lbs and Jack is the heaviest at 16 lbs, that is basically more than Everly weighs!

Speaking of Gabby. I’ve been removing her staples a few at a time over the course of a week. Yeah, call me crazy but I am cheap and broke. We can’t afford to pay another $300 to have stinking staples removed and I’ve removed my own stitches (and N’s) so what is the difference in removing a cats staples?

I looked online to find different videos on removal techniques for pets and humans. I determined the staples either needed to be clipped, pried apart or both… After some messing around with Gabby’s staples I learned hers were the pry apart kind. So easy!

Armed with two sets of needle nose pliers I began gently prying staples apart and removing them. N held gabby and all went great! She still has about 5 staples that are really wedged in a thick, hard scab in the center of her incision site. We are applying antibiotic cream to the scab to speed healing and to get it to fall off sooner. As soon as the scab is gone I can remove the remaining staples. Yay for DIY home vet skills!

Oh, we also tried out EC (Elimination Communication) with E after her pooing overreaction last week. She’s got some clear “I am trying to poop now” signals and she seems to hate having the poop touch her so we figured EC would be something to give a go while she’s still young. Here she is trying out some different EC poses on the toilet.

I broke down and ordered The Potty Patty Potty Seat II online for toilet training convenience and I even busted out her leg warmers to make things easier.

Searching for her leg warmers helped me discover some baby headbands and glasses that we promptly modeled and played with. It was entertaining and fun for all, even made for some fun pictures.

I’m sure she has her moments otherwise, but Everly is such a happy active baby. So sweet and so beautiful!

    Donna,
Yes! She sure does have her moments. Mostly when we are being stupid and ignoring her subtle cues. Like yesterday when I was vacuuming and she was in her exersaucer. She was sleepy and the vacuum sound was relaxing her, then N came along- got in her face smiling all big and talking to her. She just had a meltdown and wouldn’t stop screaming till we wised up and realized she just wanted to be put in her crib and left alone. Reminds me of something I wanted to blog about actually.
As long as she gets what she needs/ wants she’s gravy :-P
    That’s redheads for ya!
